| This large photo shows Jupiter, Venus, and a crescent Luna slowly settling into the Pacific Ocean to the southwest horizon over the lights of a foggy Los Angeles, California, on November 30, 2008. It was NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day for December 3, 2008, and was taken with a 2.5 second exposure at ISO 640 from the Mount Wilson Observatory. The full sphere of Luna is faintly visible in sunlight that was bent around the earth by atmospheric refraction. No camera filters were used. Venus is below Jupiter. The photographer was Dave Jurasevich, who writes that "hours after taking this image . . . the Moon approached the distant duo, briefly eclipsed Venus, and then moved on."
